OzHarvest and minimising food waste

In my recent trip to New York I was intoduced to City Harvest. City Harvest collects 35,000kg of leftover food a day and redistributes it to New York’s hungry. Less good food in landfill and fewer hungry people.

A smaller version exists in Australia. OzHarvest boasts saving over two million kilograms of food from landfill since it started in 2004. According to OzHarvest’s website up to 105,000 people are homeless in Australia on any given night and over 60,000 low income families experience food insecurity.
